This birthday was one of my best ever with our family of four. Olli surprised me at the beginning of the week by informing me that he planned to take my birthday off from work so we decided that Lukas didn't have to attend pre-school that day either. That made it a "bonus" Family Day and I loved it!
After Lukas' unprompted "happy birthday" greeting and kiss at 7 a.m., and a little family cuddle in our bed, the kids and Olli made waffles for breakfast and I opened my presents and cards. Later that morning, we all attended Isabel's "Messy Mess" art class. It was a beautiful day so we picked up Subway sandwiches on the way home and ate outside on our deck. After the kids' naps, we went to Lukas' swim lesson and picked up Greek food for dinner on the way home. Dessert was a yummy Oreo ice cream cake that Olli had made a special trip to buy the night before. With pleasant phone calls from loved ones who were far away, extra family time just the four of us, beautiful weather, a day off from meal preparation/cooking, and ice cream cake (two portions!), the day really couldn't have been any better!
