Lukas' Fifth Birthday Celebrations

Lukas turned five years old this past Thursday!  We celebrated all day long on his special day and had a birthday party for him this past weekend.  The following is a photo log of the various celebrations.

Lukas woke up before his alarm and began singing to himself until it was time to get out of bed.  We then went downstairs as a family and had a little celebration for him before he went to school.
Here is Olli lighting Lukas' "life candles" before we eat and sing Happy Birthday to him.  These candles are different from the American tradition as they are not usually on a cake and you don't blow them out to make a wish, but have them lit whenever you're at the table throughout your birthday.
The first gift Lukas opened was from Oma and Opa.  It is the wooden trailer  that goes with the wooden truck that they gave him a few years ago.  He knew exactly what it was for and went directly into the playroom to retrieve his truck and attach the trailer.
Tante Steffi (and family) gave Lukas a fun German game similar to "20 questions".
Yiayia and Grandpa gave Lukas a build-your-own Lego helicopter.  The first words out of his mouth were, "I always wanted one of these!" and he built it (with very minimal help) later that evening.
We gave him a CD of his current favorite "musical artist" known from the PBS interludes called Steve Songs.  Lukas and I went on a "date" to see Steve at a concert last fall.
He also got a "scanner" complete with a cash register, conveyer belt and fake foods with bar codes.  Isabel is also a great fan of this toy.
This Tri-Level Matchbox Car Garage was on the top of Lukas' wish-list.
This is Lukas at his pre-school in his hand-made crown where Isabel and I joined his class for lunch to serve fruit kabobs that the kids and I made the night before.  They were a big hit!
Thea Lesley and Uncle Derrick's gift for Lukas was waiting on the doorstep when we arrived home from school that day.  I think it's called a tele-handler and he loves it.  He nicknamed it "Trucky"within the first few minutes of playing with it--the first time I've known Lukas to give a toy a name!
Here is Lukas putting Trucky to good use.
