Photos of Our Baby's Nursery!

So, we've finished the nursery! I'd still like to hang a few more things on the walls, but it's all basically put together now. The project began with painting two of the walls, "building" the furniture that we had purchased, and decorating according to the Safari Animal theme. It was a joint effort overall, but Olli did a lot of the manual labor.

We're pretty happy with the way it all turned out. I don't feel that the photos have properly captured the bright, cheerful baby feel that the room has. However, to truly appreciate that, you would have to come see the room for yourself (perhaps with the baby in it!), and since most of you, unfortunately, won't get that chance, we've included the photos here.

This is basically the view of our baby's nursery when standing at the bedroom door.

The bookshelf is directly to the left of the bedroom door and already holds some children and young adult books (among others). The wooden giraffe that we bought in South Africa last September on our world trip is standing sentinel next to the bookshelf. Sticking to the Safari theme, there are other wooden animals inside the bookshelf as well as baby animal photos hanging on the wall above the crib.

This photo shows some of the wooden animals serving as bookends on the shelf.

On the wall next to the bookshelf is the crib. You will notice the Safari Animal theme continues with the wall hangings, mobile and other crib accessories. This photo shows the crib with the Moses basket inside it. Our baby boy will probably sleep in the Moses basket for his first three months since it's smaller than the crib, and therefore might feel cozier to him. However, I think I'll leave it in the crib most of the time so that he still gets used to his room and sleeping in the crib (indirectly). Another unique feature is the wooden toy box to the right of the crib that my dad made for me when I was little and will now be passed along to our little one.

Here's a slightly closer view of the mobile, crib bumper and fitted sheet. I'm bit bummed that the photo doesn't show more detail and is a bit dark, but you get the idea. (Maybe you can click on the picture to enlarge it if you want to see more.)

This is the baby's wardrobe, my brown leather nursing chair and the fantastic curtains and valence. It's hard to tell from this picture, but the wardrobe and the front of the changing table are a cream color with the wood grain (and a little bit of wood color) showing through.

This is the front-view of the changing table with the Safari-themed carpet square and diaper sorter (hanging on the wall). We hung the mirror above the changing table with the idea that someday our little one may be amused to see himself in the mirror before and after changing his diaper.

Now that you've seen where our baby will be spending much of his time once he's born, feel free to let us know what you think of it!
