We decided there's no time like the present to cross off a few more items on our "New England Bucket List". So we planned a fairly spontaneous family trip to the Stowe Mountain Resort in Vermont in order to tour the Teddy Bear Factor and Ben & Jerry's ice cream factory nearby as well as see the Von Trapp Family's villa. On the way there, we stopped in Hanover, New Hampshire, home of Darmouth College, just for the fun of it!

Apparently, these Vermont Teddy Bears are known and loved all over the country. They are soft, come with a life-time guarantee and have moving appendages. What more could one want in a teddy bear?!

The taste-testing room--my favorite place in the whole factory. We got to sample Strawberry Cheesecake--yummy!

After the tour, we visited the Flavor Graveyard where there are very creative epitaphs for flavors that Ben and Jerry no longer make.

A shot of the Von Trapp Family villa/hotel. Von Trapp family members give tours of the grounds and tell about the differences between the famous movie about their family and real life.

On the way back to Boston, we stayed one night in Glen, New Hampshire so that we could travel the auto road to the top of Mt. Washington, the highest point in the northeastern United States. The ride up the mountain was very interesting as we listened to a CD about how the road was first built and what sort of records have been made with various types of vehicles racing to the top. We were also fascinated by the fact that on April 12, 1934, the highest surface wind (231 miles per hour) measured anywhere on earth
was clocked by the staff of the Mount Washington Observatory and the world record still stands. The old observatory building remains chained to the mountaintop to this day!
