We had a small family celebration for Isabel's second birthday. The intention was to also have a couple of friends over to celebrate, but Lukas came down with a slight fever the night before and our guests decided not to risk getting ill too, and we don't blame them! Thankfully, Isabel (and Lukas) were in good spirits so we had a fun time just the four of us.
The day began with opening birthday cards, and the gifts from Mommy and Papa followed by a yummy breakfast of cinnamon rolls. Later in the day, we Skyped with each set of grandparents (and one set of aunt/uncles) so that they could see Isabel open the gifts that they bought for her. In total, she received two books, a set of dress-up clothes, a wooden puzzle, a wooden doll crib, a dress for her babydoll, a wooden cooke-dough/baking set and two small wooden dolls with magnetic clothes to dress them up--notice a couple of running themes?
After singing "Happy Birthday" for the 4th time, we enjoyed some cake together. I think Isabel enjoyed herself and was singing "Happy birf-day you" to herself by the end of the day.

| "Reading" her birthday cards |
| An interesting way to open a present! |
| Pointing to a dog in her German book entitled "Bei uns zu Hause"--she's in love with dogs at the moment! |
| Modeling her new jewelry--a necklace, two bracelets and a ring. In the box are two dresses and a hat that I bought for her at Salvation Army for her to "dress-up" and wear around the house. |
| Reading her new German book--she got another one in the same series from Oma and Opa, "Der Bauernhof", which she has enjoyed off-camera :-) |
| Enjoying her Cinnamon Roll |
| As soon as I put the cake on the table, Isabel snagged a bit of frosting on her finger, which you see her licking off in this photo. (Lukas is holding his class mascot--Haesli the rabbit.) |
| Isabel attempted to blow out the number 2 candle all by herself, but was unsuccessful--but not for lack of trying (note the purple frosting from the rim of the cake in the photo below)! |
| Her brother graciously stepped in to help her blow it out :-) |
| Isabel eating the frosting off the cake first--that's my girl with the sweet-tooth! |
| The last bite of cake |
After eating the entire piece of cake (with a little help from her mom), she attempted to get every last morsel off of the plate with her fork...
| ...and when that didn't work, she licked the remaining off with her tongue! |
