We went on a special Christmas train ride last weekend called the "Christmas Caboose". Our train ride was loosely based on some of the themes from a book called The Polar Express by Chris van Allsburg in which a boy takes a journey by train to the North Pole. The train is filled with children, all dressed in their pajamas, who sing Christmas carols, eat candies, and drink hot chocolate as rich as melted chocolate bars as the train rumbles on. In honor of the book, Isabel dressed in her pajamas like many of the other children on the train last weekend--Lukas brought his bathrobe (although he never put it on) and didn't want to wear pajamas. We also sang Christmas songs, ate cookies and drank hot chocolate.
In the book, the train stops at the North Pole and the boy receives a bell from Santa's sleigh. We, too, stopped at the North Pole where Santa got on the train and gave each of the kids a jingle bell. Frosty the Snowman, the Nutcracker, Rudolf and the Gingerbread Man also joined us for awhile before our train headed back to the train station.
Lukas and Isabel had a lot of fun and it was a neat family experience for us all. We really enjoy these sorts of memory-making experiences!

Here we are as the train is leaving the station. We have a carol book and a letter to Santa in our hands (although Lukas never wrote anything on his letter).
