February Highlights

February was a busy month for us. The month began with yet another snow day for Lukas (his 5th day off from school for snow!) and held two birthday celebrations for Lukas' friends.
However, the biggest event for Lukas occurred on the 14th of February when he was pushed off of some parallel bars in Sports Class and fell four feet to the floor.  He took the brunt of the fall with his forehead and sustained his first ever concussion.  Ugh!  It is a long story, but we ended up spending Valentine's Day evening in the children's ER while Lukas had a CAT scan to make sure that there was no bleeding in his brain.  Thank God there was not!!  It was also discovered that evening that he had an ear infection, but that was the least of our concern at the time.

That same morning, I had made a trip to the doctor's office with Isabel to discover that she had a double ear infection.  It may sound crazy, but two days later, with two children on antibiotics for ear infections and one recovering from a mild concussion, we flew to my parent's house. (It was a doctor-approved visit I assure you!)

After a few days, the children were feeling better and Olli and I left for a luxurious weekend in a spa hotel nearby while my parents watched our children.  What a blessing that was!  The kids had a great time with their grandparents too, of course! :-)

The evening of our return, we celebrated Isabel's birthday with my family and Isabel had her first taste of chocolate in the Chocolate Dope on her Angel Food Cake.  She LOVED it!  (See the photo evidence below).

Just two days later, Isabel reached her own major milestone for the month--she began to walk! It was just a few steps at first, but she would get herself up and try again right away.  It started as a game with her brother of getting up, taking a few steps and falling down again only to repeat the process over and over.  There was a lot of giggling!  Then, she became delighted to walk a few steps in between two people at a short distance.  Now, just two weeks after her first steps, she is walking everywhere she goes!

Below are a few photos of this months' highlights.

Lukas and Isabel riding their cars around the house as a "train"--The red car is actually attached to the purple one.  They are, however, riding each others' cars and not their own. :-)

Photographic evidence of Isabel's love for it.  She even "asked" for seconds.

The boys in the fort they built out of a cardboard box in my parents' backyard

Lukas slept in this fort for one of his naps and apparently, they did some birdwatching at some point too! :-)

Lukas and Grandpa proudly displaying the wooden race car that they built together at Home Depot the Saturday morning before we returned to Boston.  This was Lukas' favorite part of the trip and he told his class all about it the next day at school (I read the transcript of his conversation last week and it's pretty cute).

What a treat it was to have you in CO for so long! We had some great times together and I'm really glad the cousins got to be together so often. Lukas was really sweet with Liam. Your kids are so adorable in all these pictures and in person! Lukas has the sweetest smile in all these pics. Miss you!
