My mom came to visit us for three weeks this month. It was great to have her here for many reasons and it was especially sweet to see how quickly Lukas fell in love with her! He learned to say "Yiayia" the first day she arrived and still sometimes asks where she is now that she has flown back to Colorado.
The first part of her visit (five days of it anyway) were spent together in Moscow since Olli was there on business. I've attached some of the photos from that trip below as well as a few others that show a couple more of Lukas' firsts from the past three weeks. Enjoy!

One of the days that Olli was in meetings, Mom and I took Lukas to the Moscow Zoo. Just getting there on the underground subway system was a REAL adventure (ask us and we'll tell you the story sometime). The zoo was a little "flea-bitten" in my opinion--the cages were very small and often times there was only one lone animal in each cage. However, Lukas had never been to a zoo before so he didn't have anything else to compare it to. He loved watching the different animals (especially the elephant) and that's what's most important since he's the real reason we went there in the first place!
Tomb of the Unknown Soldier: The flowers placed next to the helmet on the table were put there by a Russian couple who had just been married that day. They were still dressed in their wedding attire. Apparently, it's very common for couples (along with their wedding party and some of their guests) to visit some of the historical sites around Moscow the day they get married. We saw two such couples in one day!
This is the entrance to the Kremlin. We took a three-hour tour of the Red Square, the Kremlin and some of the major churches inside the Kremlin walls. It was very interesting and a real chance for us all to learn more about Russian history.
Construction on this enormous bell was begun before they built a bell tower for it. The bell tower was never completed and this bell was buried underground for something like 100 years before being displayed here.
The Bloshoi Theatre was under contruction while we were there. Olli and I went to an opera put on by the Bolshoi Theatre company, but in a theatre next door to this one. It was a really neat experience for sure!
The first lego train that Lukas built completely on his own!
While taking a break from splashing in his plastic pool on our balcony, Lukas tastes his first popsicle!
